"Ahotasu" (Beloved)
By Chris Eaves

If only you knew Ahotasu,
Of snow that you have melted.
Encased in Arctic sensation,
My heart was frozen in place.
Defrosting my centre quintessence,
You proved that I could love,
If only you knew Ahotasu,
That you were loved by me.
But you refused my silent vows,
Refused to let me reveal
Refused my compassionate gaze
Refused my steady hand.

What should I do Ahotasu
What must I do for you.
Pain I feel when you suffer
Joy, whenever you triumph
Excitement when you're elated
Sorrow whenever you weep.
This is what I'll do Ahotasu,
What I must do for you,
Leave you alone till the Earth stands still
So you'll be free from me.

First place in Gael, Spring of 1995 for Poetry.
